Norfolk based Glazewing Ltd waste no time putting their new Atlas scrap handler to work.
Originally a rail breaking yard established in the seventies, Glazewing Ltd are today one of the UK’s leading scrap metal recyclers. Under new ownership since 2007, the firm based in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, process 80,000 tons of scrap metal every year. Predominantly operating as a ferrous metal yard, recent years have seen the company specialise in demolition, decommissioning and construction scrap.
Large industrial contracts and an ongoing partnership with Norfolk County Council keep Glazewing busy enough, the decommissioning of off-shore oil rigs bring in around 1500 ton of scrap metal per week alone. It’s no wonder the team were in the market for a new, reliable material handler.
This ongoing demand and continued workload saw the team approach the marketplace for a new scrap handler. Having been predominantly a one brand yard for many years, the team were impressed by the complete package offered by material handling veterans TDL Equipment. As the UK’s sole distributor for the German engineered material handlers, TDL Equipment offered complete peace of mind and no hidden costs with a package consisting of 3 years servicing and comprehensive maintenance cover.
Glazewing Director, Jason Minns explained, “We appreciated the transparency from TDL throughout the whole process. Being predominantly a one brand yard for many years, investing in an unknown brand to us was a serious commitment. TDL encouraged us to speak to existing Atlas customers and gave us peace of mind with the all in 3 year maintenance and service package. The Atlas ticked all the boxes”
Landing on a Friday, the Atlas 350MH was put straight to work for Saturday. It grafts 11 hours a day, 6 days a week and has “performed well above expectations” says Jason.
Weighing in at 37 ton and powered by a Deutz 6-cylinder, 245 hp diesel engine, the Atlas 350MH offers extra reach when compared to machines of a similar size, another factor that appealed to the team at Glazewing. The 350MH offers a 17 metre reach and 700 litre grab capacity to maximise productivity.
The cab rises to a height of 5.5 metres from ground level, giving the operator clear and unobstructed views. The automatic engaged reversing fan, regularly cleans out the radiator cores, maximising the machines performance and limiting dust and debris build up. The machine is designed to be easily accessible for both the operator and for servicing, large gullwing canopies open up on either side of the chassis to allow unrestricted access to the cooling pack on one side and the hydraulic system on the other.
From all at TDL Equipment, a big Thank You to Glazewing Ltd for their recent investment in their new Atlas machine. All the best team!
